Product Information
Moroccan amethyst with needles minimum 10.00ct 18x13mm oval. The
gemstone was mined in Morocco and cut in India.
Jewelry Television is pleased to present stunning amethyst from one of the newest, late 20th century discoveries! For those who are movie buffs, you may recognize Morocco as the home of the fabled city of Casablanca, the namesake of the classic 1942 movie. Morocco's desert landscape is dotted by kasbahs, with camels often the preferred mode of transportation. While amethyst from Morocco has been known for some time, it was this newer discovery on an isolated mountainside that first yielded gem-quality crystals. Discovered in 1990 high in the Anti-Atlas Mountains, the amethyst deposit is located in weathered rock near the town of Boudi. The beautiful crystals, first found by the local elder of a nearby nomadic tribe while tending to his livestock, were mined by hand by local villagers and sold to tourists. In 2013, mechanized mining began and continues today in this open quarry. Only an estimated 20% of the amethyst crystals are deemed facet grade and a large percentage of the crystals contain distinctive red dendritic hematite inclusions, serving as a tell-tale sign of origin. As attention and excitement have grown about these beautiful amethysts, we invite you to discover the exotic beauty of Moroccan amethyst today at Jewelry Television and jtv.com, the only American home shopping network to offer these stunning gems!
